Corn is as High as an Elephant's Eye

Finally, after on-and-off drizzle, we have summer weather
and the forecast has yellow circles from here on out.

Tomatoes seem to have recovered from mildew.

The main task at hand is turning weeds into mulch,
thereby transforming something that sucks water and root space
into something that protects soil moisture and prevents new germination.

After a mild winter, surprisingly, the only undesirable insects that seem to
have proliferated are paper wasps. Lady bug population is healthy too.

Coming Up Roses

June was a nice mix of showers and sun.
First row of broccoli was a little too early,
they did not make much of a flower (crown)

Everything else looks great!! We are focused on cultivating
desirable weeds so when they do come up, we are just
concerned with clearing space for crops and allowing weeds to
benefit us as green mulch and maintainers of soil integrity.

Junuary

After a couple of years on haitus, Junuary is back, but it is mild, a nice, overcast, sprinkly break in the sunny summery weather we've been having. This is an early year by at least two weeks. Lots of people have been eating summer squash for weeks!

Onions were planted along with corn and Steven's squash, a row of kale. Berries are all coming on and fruit is setting in the orchard!!

Onions & Squash

The field is filling up, Steven put in some more carrots, peas, spinach and a few rows of onions.

The first peas in the greenhouse are coming on and the first strawberries are turning red.

On a side note: Aliza now has 63 squash plants planted on Lopez Island,
11 of which are just east of the relocated raspberries.
There may be a few more joining them in a few days.

Days are sunny and warm, very summery.
Things are coming a month earlier than last year.
